Mission
It’s my personal mission to make a dignified living from my creative talents and knowledge and if I possible to try and make a difference through art and design, no matter how small. To inspire others and to create something that I can be truly proud of, that may sound really corny, which fair enough it does really, but there has never been a truer word said, I am looking for job satisfaction and creative freedom. Be it educating others, promoting others, writing articles, selling my own designs, products or work – I don’t mind so long as I feel fulfilled that I am making some kind of creative difference and making people satisfied or happy. But to do so by the rules of what I feel are ‘good design’.
MGT! Rules for ‘Good Design’. A checklist of what I l generally look for when I consider something to be well designed, if it doesn’t tick at least 3 of the boxes it generally needs more thought or work.
- Reuse & Recycle items and materials as much as possible rather than purchase new for the sake of it
- Reduce Waste, try to keep within budgets, don’t squander materials for the sake of it, if possible use natural materials as much as you can.
- Intuitive – If the design is serving a purpose rather than just decorative, it should be straight forward to use, safe and strong.
- Challenging – Does it push the boundaries of technology, does it make us think about what is or could be possible, is it clever?
- Psychological - does it make us smile or happy? Generally how does or will it make someone feel?
- Functional – what job is it doing and is it doing it well?
- Solution – how well does it solve a problem or need?
- Art/Decorative – is it beautiful or visually pleasing?
- Shelf life – Is it solid, how long will it last and can it be reused in the future?
- Environmental – what is its impact on the environment?
- Life – What is the overall difference it will make to someone’s life?
