The house was built by the Earl of Burlington in 1729 to showcase his art collection and wow his guests; today you can still see many of the spectacular works of art on display.

The gardens are the birthplace of the English Landscape Movement and have inspired countless gardens including New York’s Central Park.

Chiswick House is the first and possibly one of the finest examples of neo-Palladian design in England.  The architecture has been inspired by 16th Century Italy and ancient Rome. It was built as homage to the Renaissance architect Palladio.

Within the house you will find many wonderful architectural splendours and works of art. In the gardens there are a combination of hidden pathways, grand vistas, statues and inspiring arrangements of flowers, shrubs and specimen trees waiting for you to discover them.

And if that is not enough culture for you, the Beatles made a pair of promotional videos at Chiswick House for their new singles ‘Paperback Writer’ and ‘Rain in May 1966.

I overheard one Mum saying to another the other day. "XXXXXX scares me with how much she grasps and learns. Apparently because children don't have to be anywhere or do anything their minds are clear, that's why they are like knowledge sponges. My mind is obviously at full capacity!" Give yourself an hour a week (at least) to clear your mind and see what you can learn.
